Real Estate Glossary | | windward When used as an adjective, windward means to be on the side facing the wind and leeward means on the side sheltered from the wind. In Hawaii, windward also refers to a side of the island that is characteristically more lush due to higher rainfall. Hawaii trade winds blow from the northeast to the southwest and deposit rainfall as they pass over the mountains. Therefore Windward is the north and eastern facing sides and Leeward is the south and west facing sides. |
